OMEGA GETS OUT RECORD NUMBER
CHAPTER HAS LARGE NUMBER of ASPIRING ATHLETES - OLD GRADS RETURN FOR ALUMNI DAY - DANCE BEFORE CHRISTMAS - By ROBERT F. HOPE
State College, Pennsylvania, December 12 — Now that the football togs have been consigned to the moths, the various coaches of Penn State have begun to dust off the basketball court, dean the boxing gloves, and sweep the wrestling mat in preparation for one of the biggest indoor athletic seasons in the history of the college. With the call for candidates Omega sent forth the greatest number of varsity aspirants in the history of the chapter. A number are tossing the ball from the floor, a few are swapping punches, and several are rolling about on the mat for honors in the various games.
Brothers who are seeking titles in the box-ing realm are E. Maize, Goebells, and Gifford. These three men were active last year in the interfraternity boxing tournament, and they made a good impression on the judges.
C. Maize and Wallace stand out as Omega's representatives on the wrestling mat this year. They were both on last year's squad, and the experience they gained will be a big factor in their favor for clinching varsity berths this year.
Three Omega pledges have taken to the sport call; two are seeking berths on the freshman basketball team, and one is working daily for honors on the freshman wrestling team. Pledges Geuder and Bossard are making a favorable showing on the basketball squad and Pledge Nilson is grappling on the mat. Pledge Marvel has signed up for freshman boxing.
Brother MacWilliams has been elected second assistant cheerleader and will have charge of the sophomore cheering section at all in-door athletic events.
Brother Windle, first assistant boxing man-ager, reports a large number of candidates for the varsity team. He is working to land the managership for next year. Brother Meyer is still soliciting ads as a sophomore member of the Collegian staff.
Pledges Wilson and Clinger are members of the band.
Omega enjoyed the old grads that came back for alumni day. Although rain put on a damper on the activities, it failed to hinder the spirit of the occasion.
Last Friday night the brothers glided about the floor to the tunes of the best orchestra in college. It was the last dance before the Christmas recess.
