Lamont B. Smith '55 - Jan. 6, 2024

Captain Lamont Bruce Smith (USPHS -RET), 90, of Mifflinburg, PA passed away on Saturday, January 6, 2024.

He was born April 11,1933 in East Weissport, PA, a son of the late Nathan Alexander Smith and Arlene Grace (Rieck) Smith.

Lamont was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Cynthia Etnire Clark Board Smith; brother, Blaine Gomer Rieck (Shirley) of Cary, NC; sister La Rue Trixe Smith (Latshaw) of Orange Lake, Fla; and step-mother Helen Patsy Smith of Lehighton, PA.

Surviving family are two daughters, Susan Board Gillham (George Minott) of Shirley, MA; Sarah Board Plott (Phillip) of Charlotte, NC; granddaughters, Cynthia Hale Gillham of New York, NY; Diana Hirsh Gillham Rich (Warren) of Colchester, VT; grandson, James Francis Plott of Charlotte, NC. great-grandsons, Arthur Warren Rich and Arlo Lamont Rich of Colchester, VT. niece, Judy Lotshaw Kurz (Cleve) of Alamogordo, NM; nephews, Donald Lotshaw of Poplar Bluff, MO and Charles Lotshaw of Micanopy, Florida; and step-sister, Barbara Patsy Smith (Roy) of Frankfort, NY. Surviving cousins are Allen Smith of Bath, PA; Reme Paluka of Sommerville, NJ; Elenore Nardozi of New Columbus, PA.

Lamont graduated from Lehighton High School (1951); Penn State University (1955) BS-PE and University of Pennsylvania (1956) - School of Physical Therapy.

Lamont served 26 years at the National Institutes of Health retiring as Physical Therapy Director and then continued in a private Physical Therapy practice for 14 years in the Rockville-Bethesda, MD area.

Lamont was the Pennsylvania State Mile Champion in 1951, Penn State University Cross Country All American and competed in distance running for over 35 years in the Washington, DC area.

Lamont's long-time hobbies in Bethesda, MD and Mifflinburg, PA were hunting, fishing and landscaping his homes. Lamont loved his neighbors and friends, was passionate about supporting his community, nature and the youth.

A memorial service to celebrate Lamont's life will be held at 11 am on Saturday, May 4, 2024 at Adamo Funeral Home, 16 East Walnut Street, Mifflinburg. Family and friends may gather and visit with family from 10:30 am until the time of service.
