John David Swift of Fort Wayne, Indiana, passed away peacefully at the age of 77 on April 19, 2019 embraced by his family.

He enjoyed 52 Years of marriage with his wife Kathleen Jeanne (Garvey) Swift and is survived by his three children: Jeffrey David Swift (Anne Jones Swift), Jennifer Swift Northenor (Barry Thomas Northenor) and Amanda Swift Gallagher (Anthony John Gallagher). He had ten grandchildren: Heather Maclean Swift, Grace Anne Swift, John Townley (JT) Swift, Austin Nicole Northenor, Samantha Jean Northenor, Katherine (Katie) Reagan Northenor, Matthew Thomas Northenor, Lawson Mark Gallagher, Bennett John Gallagher and Ava Kathleen Gallagher. He is survived by his sister Bonni Hugo and many loving nieces and nephews: Cathy Hugo Williams, Robert Hugo, Todd Hugo, Cayla Hugo Hittmeier, Jonathon Hugo, Melissa Garvey Young and Courtney Garvey Horner.

He is preceded in death by his Mother: Anna Henry Swift and his Father: Bayless John Swift.

John was a graduate of Penn State University in 1964 and started his career with Firestone in Philadelphia. He joined the General Electric Financial Management team in 1966. He was invited to join the auditors staff in 1969 and moved to Schenectady, New York. His GE career took him to Lynchburg, Virginia in 1973, Glens Falls, NY in 1978 and Trumbull, CT in 1979. In 1984 he joined Mohasco and was a member of the small group of entrepreneurs who led the buyout and eventual Initial Public Offering that would become Mohawk Industries - the world’s largest floor manufacturer. John remained Chief Financial Officer from the beginning of the company until he retired in 2004. He was an avid tennis player who arranged Saturday and Sunday round robins for Brookfield Country Club and enjoyed golfing. He loved his family and never missed an opportunity to cheer on his children/ grandchildren in their various activities from soccer, football, baseball, symphony, basketball or tennis. He loved playing cards such as Euchre, Gin and Sequence. John was a kind and generous man who made many long lasting friendships that continued from his high school years throughout his life.

The visitation will be Sunday, April 28 at Northside Chapel from 3:00 – 5:00 pm. Funeral Service will be at St. Peter Chanel on April 29 at 10:30 am with a reception to follow at Brookfield Country Club (12:00 – 2:00 pm).
