2016 Summer Repairs/Maintenance to Chapter House
With the new semester in full swing, we wanted to update the alumni on the continued upgrades to the house that were completed this past summer. The board moved forward with some long overlooked aesthetic issues and completed a few mandated code compliance directives. We have been lucky to develop a good relationship with Kunes Construction, the contractor that completed the side porch repair, and his company is handling all our work again.
The remaining exterior trim has been repaired and painted, including the cornice work at the top of the house. This now finishes most of the planned major work on the exterior of the building. Finally, a commercial cleaner was hired to do a total top to bottom cleaning of the house, especially the kitchen.
The Borough of State College is always updating their code requirements. This year we were directed to upgrade our old dumpster. The borough has also been targeting sidewalk safety the past couple years, and this summer the district that included our house was on the agenda. We received notice of five concrete segments that we needed to replaced or the borough would do it and bill us. We have completed the required work and added a few areas that were our own concerns.
