Alumni President Message about Gala and Schedule
Greetings;
It is with great pride that I share with you the schedule of events for our celebration of Omega Chapter of Theta Chi and Penn State – A Century in the Making the weekend of October 19th.
This is not your standard Theta Chi & Penn State party, consider the following itinerary, which is outstanding, and also keep in mind that many generations of Theta Chi's Omega chapter brothers will be in town for the weekend, creating an incredibly valuable and unique opportunity to reconnect, relax, and enjoy. We have worked quite hard to create a very family friendly opportunity to visit Penn State and Theta Chi, with receptions, shuttle transportation (no need to drive once you arrive), campus tours, and a kid’s reception with games, fun food and supervision during the black tie gala. Please read on, this is an exciting time for the Fraternity and a great and unique opportunity to catch up, have a fun trip with the family, and celebrate, what we all know, is an outstanding Fraternity and University.

Join us at the Theta Chi of Penn State reception desk under the Rotunda at the Nittany Lion Inn after you check in to your hotel room and prepare for an outstanding weekend. The Nittany Lion Inn, besides being the hallmark of our most favorite college mascot, is also a AAA Four Diamond Rated property, with upscale accommodations, outstanding hospitality, service and attention to detail. A truly great venue for what will be a fun filled, action packed weekend.
For those that can make it to University Park on the earlier side, Jeff Damcott is hosting an optional golf outing at Toftrees Golf Resort, which the name means, news to me, “Home among the trees”. The resort is about three miles from State College, nestled among 1,500 scenic wooded acres and was recently rated 4.5 stars by Golf Digest magazine’s “Places to Play”. More from Jeff is forth coming, but a mid-afternoon tee off is planned. Followed by a late lunch at the resort.
Fear not if you will be arriving a bit later in the day, as we have planned a welcome reception at the Chapter house for Friday evening, with drinks and light hors d’oeuvres. We will provide a shuttle bus from the Nittany Lion Inn to the house throughout the evening on Friday, which, of course, can make any stop along the way if you choose to visit your favorite site downtown for dinner or drinks. The undergraduate brothers are very excited to show you, in person, the tremendous progress that has been made and host a premier event for the alumni organization.
Saturday, October 19, 2013
We begin Saturday’s events by marking the second time in our history that we are hosting the annual Foundation meeting at the Nittany Lion Inn, with a continental breakfast and plenty of opportunity to continue to reconnect with the brotherhood. The meeting will be followed by a brief update regarding the Theta Chi for Life Capital Campaign, and should adjourn in plenty of time to enjoy State College and the Penn State campus for lunch and throughout the afternoon.
Speaking of the campus, immediately following the morning meetings at the Inn, we will be providing a complimentary tour of the campus hosted via bus tour by the Nittany Lion Ambassadors, with a stop at the Chapter house for a buffet lunch and drinks before returning to the Inn.
The Theta Chi of Penn State reception desk will be open all day Saturday in the Rotunda at the Nittany Lion Inn to assist with any arrangements and to provide information regarding the weekend.
Saturday evening marks the big celebration – Theta Chi and Penn State, A Century in the Making, with a grand reception outside the Inn’s Boardroom, followed by a black tie gala with entertainment, great food, and plenty of dancing and time to connect and network.
For our younger guests, a separate room with certified professionals providing supervision is available, including games, movies, and a child friendly menu. No need to worry, all family members will have a great time, so that Mom & Dad can dance the night away and celebrate Theta Chi Black Tie Style knowing the kids are having plenty of fun as well.
Please also know that as previously announced, we are honored to have as a keynote speaker during the gala event, PSU Trustee, Mr. Anthony Lubrano, simply an amazing supporter of the University and who is very happy to support and be a part of the Theta Chi Reunion. Mr. Lubrano is a lifetime member of the Alumni Association and a member of the Nittany Lion Club, has served on the Athletic Committee at Penn State during A Grand Destiny Campaign, a fundraising effort that resulted in over $1.3 billion in gifts. A former baseball player at his alma mater, his lead gift to Penn State Intercollegiate Athletics led to the construction of Medlar Field at Lubrano Park, a 5,400 seat baseball stadium that opened June, 2006. Mr. Lubrano is also a member of the Laurel Circle of the Mount Nittany Society as well as the Presidents Club.
