Board of Directors Elections - Dec 2018
Dear Brother,
I am pleased to announce that we are now accepting votes for the Alumni Board of Theta Chi of Penn State.
The alumni board serves the alumni brotherhood and undergraduates in a variety of ways. We coordinate alumni communications, plan annual events and reunions, manage the chapter property, provide short-term and long-term financial planning, and help to advise and support the active chapter. Engaged alumni volunteers are essential to a well-run fraternity.
As we confront the many new challenges to Greek Life at Penn State, it is very important that we take time to foster our personal connections within our brotherhood, and extend a helping hand where possible to ensure the continued success and livelihood of not only our undergraduate members, but our alumni as well. Through strong and responsive leadership, we can build and maintain an active and healthy chapter that inspires and sustains true friendships.
Per our bylaws, there are three board member positions being elected. Please select up to three of the five candidates described in the sheet attached to this letter. The three candidates with the highest vote totals will be elected to the Board. After the election has concluded, the new board (6 members) will meet to determine their officers.
As we attempt to modernize our operations for the sake of more efficient communications, cost reductions, and the environment, we ask that you please submit your votes via the link below. If you still wish to submit your vote via mail, please send to:
Secretary, Theta Chi of Penn State 1
20 Kingston St. Unit 807
Boston, MA 02111
Votes will be accepted online or postmarked through 12/28/18. If you have any questions or concerns about the chapter, please reach out to me directly, I do my best to respond within 24 hours.

BOARD NOMINEES
Paul Kirkegaard - Current Board President
Paul was Initiated in May 1987, while working on a B.S. in Finance. He graduated in May 1992 with Honors. After graduation, he worked 23 years in the golf industry as a PGA Professional for Marriott Resorts and as an independent sales representative for leading retail brands, including Ashworth, Callaway, and Sun Mountain among others. He is currently employed as the Accounting Director for The Grand Lodge of Maryland with direct financial oversight responsibilities for The Grand Lodge of Maryland, Maryland Masonic Homes, Masonic Charities of Maryland and The Stephen J. Ponzillo, Jr. Memorial Library and Museum. He lives in Northern Baltimore County, Maryland with wife Jennifer and twin daughters Sybil and Sophia. With his little free time, he enjoys golfing and running.
Chris Burke - Current Board Treasurer
Chris graduated Penn State in 1993 with a BS in accounting, and has subsequently earned his MS from Columbia University. He earned his CPA and subsequently worked in the technology,
banking and consulting industries before starting his own technology infrastructure firm. He has served on the Alumni Board as treasurer for approximately 10 years, and worked with the board members to repurchase the chapter house after it was taken over by NHC in the 2000s. In addition to his work on the Theta Chi Board, he serves as treasurer and chair of the audit committee for the Post Graduate Center for Mental Health, a $250 MM non-profit headquartered in NYC.
Ed Wallace
Ed graduated from our Alma Mater in 2012. He served as webmaster and a Standards Board member during his time as and undergrad. He stayed as active as his demanding major (Nuclear Engineering) would allow by participating in THON, Greek Week, KICKS, FLICKS and other activities. He is currently a licensed professional mechanical engineer, where he designs and analyzes buildings and systems for various clients from the US military to high rise apartments. He currently lives near Atlanta, Georgia with his wife (just got married last year) and dog in a little town called Woodstock. He wanted to serve on the Alumni Board sooner, but didn't feel he had the experience or bandwidth to truly dedicate the effort needed. That situation has changed, he is excited for a chance to give back to the chapter that gave him so much.
Eric Cushing
Eric graduated in 2013 with his B.S. in Nuclear Engineering and a lofty 3.6 GPA in major. He currently lives in the DC metro area, where he works for the Nuclear Regulatory Commission to license nuclear power plant operators. If elected to the alumni board, he plans to focus on creating more alumni involvement by reaching out, coordinating alumni retreats, and reunions on campus.
Saif Khalil
Saif joined the chapter during his sophomore year, and believes his journey through college
could not have been more developmental if it weren’t for Theta Chi. While an active undergrad, he served as House Manager, Vice President, and Interim-President; roles that have helped him to connect closely with all of the brothers. He graduated in May 2018, and currently works as a Structural Project Engineer at Timothy Haahs & Associates; A mid-sized engineering and architectural firm headquartered in Philadelphia. Given the proximity to State College, and close connections with several current undergraduate members, he believes he would be an excellent candidate for the Theta Chi Alumni Board of Directors.
