It is with great sadness that we report the passing of:
James T. Nelligan '61 - passed away on July 20, 2014
James Timothy Nelligan of Palos Verdes Estates, CA passed away peacefully, surrounded by his adoring family on July 20, 2014. Tim lived a full and joyful life, which was characterized by his contagious Irish smile, his love for his family, his love for music, and his warm, loving soul. Anyone lucky enough to meet Tim Nelligan aka The Silver Fox was blessed by his open-hearted, welcoming nature and that unforgettable smile.
He was born on December 19, 1939 in Washington, DC to Jeremiah and Virginia Nelligan. Tim graduated from Bethesda Chevy Chase High School in 1957 and proudly graduated from Penn State University in 1961. He was actively involved in university politics and was a member of Theta Chi Fraternity. He was, no doubt, a fiercely proud Nittany Lion who bled blue and white, especially during the college football season. Tim served his country during Vietnam in the US Coast Guard and was honorably discharged. Tim married the love of his life, Theodora Ecker on April 29, 1967, and they enjoyed 48 wonderful years together.
Tim was the CEO and President of many building products companies, youth sports leagues, trade associations, too many to name… He was the recipient of numerous awards in honor of his commitment to his community and business ventures. Tim was an active member of The Jonathan Club, Palos Verdes Breakfast Club and the Palos Verdes Beach and Athletic Club, to name a few.
He is survived by his wife, Theodora Nelligan, his children James Nelligan (daughter-in-law Claudia Nelligan), Theodora Nelligan Vinton (son-in-law Gregory Vinton), and Timothy Nelligan (daughter-in-law Laura Nelligan) nine beautiful grandchildren Cameron, Dylan, Mason, Jessica, Luke, Jacob, Kyle, Bryce, and Emery, three nephews Adam, John, and Tim McManus, grand dogs Ogie and Vader and last but not least, his loyal dog Caffrey, who stood by his side until the end.
Tim will be truly missed, but his incredible legacy will live on! We love you Pop!!
