33rd Annual Theta Chi Open Update - May 2nd
33 hard to believe it has been that long. 33 is a pretty special number….you can look it up:
It’s the number won by perhaps the best linebacker in Penn State history…Jack Ham
Anyone who knows the basics in math can tell you that 33 is the largest positive integer that cannot be expressed as a sum of different triangular numbers. I did not cut and paste this line…honest.
Larry Bird was a 33, so was Kareen and Tony Dorsett. Didn’t want to go there with TD, but if I didn’t mention it Tom Butch would
For you Pittsburghers one Honus Wagner, the greatest shortstop of all time (ask Eddie Kivitz he was there) wore number 33.
33 is the NBA record for most consecutive wins held by those Lakers led by Elgin, Jerry and Wilt.
33 is the number of Shots a young John Naylor drank one Sunday morning in Brother Giles room. Although it was hard to count as he was sneak drinking some of them.
33 is the number of words written on the back of a bottle of Rolling Rock. 33 is also the number usually imbibed by a Brother or two when racing the ponies at the Skeller.
33 is a card game that perhaps will be played by the “old” guys staying at Brother Tommy Raymond’s house (It’s great to be 60 and remaining a young guy)
Baskin and Robbins has 33 flavors, but do they have Peach Paterno?
We once had a 33 day Pope…Pope John Paul I. Catholic Brothers insert your own joke here.
And now number 33 is the number of Theta Chi Opens that have come and gone. This year’s event will be held, as it is every year on the First Friday in May, May 2nd. Details include the following:
The course: Shoregate Golf Club, located in Oceanview, NJ. Back by popular demand.
- First tee time is 11 AM on Friday May 2nd. Greens fees are $79 same as last year.
- Post game banquet will once again be held at a house located in the Avalon/Stone Harbor area. Stretch Cunningham and friends will be making a road trip soon to select the house.
- Feedback received from last year was a desire for an upgrade in menu. So we are going with steaks ordered from Pappy’s in Ocean City, NJ. Brothers McClure and Rooney in charge. Cost to be determined. Payment will be due on the day of the banquet.
As usual no deposit is required. Only your firm commitment to attend is requested, so tee times and banquet commitments can be locked in. Let us know by filling out the form on the right. Also, if you are a regular or somewhat regular attendee and cannot make it this year it would help greatly if you let us know. And if you can come up with any more good 33s by all means share.
Thanks.
Brother Mike Perkins
Theta Chi Open Champ 1996 …. you can look that up too.
