2008 Theta Chi Golf Open Recap
The Theta Chi Open was won by Bob Mausser who shot an 81 on a very tough course. Bob is a 1975 graduate of Penn State and now lives in the Dallas area. This was his third appearance at a Theta Chi Open and his second consecutive. Never before has the illustrious Red Jacket been so far from home. It should be noted that this is the first time in years that the winner actually could fit into the Jacket. He hasn’t gained a pound since graduation.
The second place finisher was a first time participant in the Open and also a candidate for the Man/Miles award. Bob Losinger, aka “Pig”, shot an 89 to finish second. He flew in from Minneapolis, Minnesota to participate. He is a graduate from 1972.
Twenty four Theta Chi’s participated in the event including Paul Bender, Tony Bernardo, Phil Bochey, Paul Cunningham, Mike Dalesio, Rod Dare, Dave Douglas, Brian Fleuhr, Victor Howe, Bob Hunter, Bob Losinger, John Loyle, Dave Matthews, Matt Mankus, Bob Mausser, Bob Mooney, Ken Oeschger, Mike Perkins, Tom Raymond, Bill Rooney, Kurt Rohrbach, John Wszalek, Hugh McClure, Alan Vladimir.
This year the event was moved to the South Jersey shore. We played at Shoregate Country Club located near Sea Isle City, New Jersey. After the golf, steak, shrimp and assorted adult beverages were served at a beach house in the Jersey shore town of Avalon, New Jersey. The festivities continued the next day. Some went fishing others played another round of golf on Saturday. And Saturday night the Mint Juleps were flowing for the Kentucky Derby.
Next year we get to do it all again. The 28th Annual Theta Chi Open will be held as always on the first Friday in May, May 1st 2009. The location once again will be Shoregate Country Club. If interested in playing please let us know.
