2006 Annual Golf Open

The 25th annual Theta Chi Open will be held this year at Turtle Creek Golf Club located in Limerick, PA and it will be quite the affair. The date is Friday, May 5th, 2006. It seems only appropriate to have our 25th annual at a golf course that was designed by one of our own, Brother Ed Beidel. The course is rated 4 stars by Golf Digest and is a challenging and well
maintained track. Visit Turtle Creek for more info.

If you've never been to a Theta Chi Open... this is the one to make. I am confident this will bring out the best of Theta Chi's characters. Here are the details:

Date: Friday, May 5th the First Friday in May as always.

Time: 10:00 AM

Where: Turtle Creek Golf Course located on 303 West Ridge Pike in Limerick, PA designed by our own Brother Ed Beidel.

Cost: $100 covers all activities on Saturday including golf, cart, closest to the pin/longest drive, Lobster Bake and post round beer.

Postround Festivities: I don't know how they did it but they were able to keep costs at the same price as last year despite the significantly upgraded postgame festivities. We will be living large. A huge tent will be erected adjacent to the 18th hole so we can watch our brethren complete their round in quite solitude...ha ha. The banquet will include the following:

2 pound whole lobsters
Steamed clams
A raw bar fit for a King including Jumbo Shrimp and clams
Potatoes, corn
1/2 keg of beer and our own bartender

Accommodations: The Sheraton Park Ridge, located in King of Prussia is Theta Chi headquarters. A block of rooms have been set aside under the name of "Penn State Theta Chi". The room cost is $90 a significant discount from their normal $159 rate. This rate is good for Thursday, Friday or Saturday nights. This hotel used to be called Stouffers and has been the site of a few Theta Chi reunions in the past, organized by Brother Bill Rooney. It is located next to the King of Prussia mall and many bars. I encourage local Philly guys as well as out of towners to stay at this hotel. To reserve a room call 610-337-1800. Do not delay as there are already a number of other reunions and weddings booked at the hotel... and you can always cancel if your plans change.

Shuttle Service: The hotel will provide free transportation, via a 15 passenger "Stretch" mobile, to/from any of the area bars. The hotel will also provide transportation from the hotel to/from the golf course in an effort to eliminate any possibility of meeting up with a King of Prussia trooper on the way back from the course. "Stretch" trash cans will also be provided as a courtesy. Let me know of your interest in the "Stretch" service. The bus will leave at 8 AM Friday morning from the hotel to the golf course.

Bars: There are lots of them in the King of Prussia/Valley Forge area. The hotel itself has a sports bar called "Mad Anthony's" that has pool tables and darts. I recommend Kildare's a great Irish bar, with Irish bands playing every weekend and a good happy hour. The location is within crawling distance from the hotel and most importantly transportation will
be provided by the hotel.

Golf Scoring: Low net wins the prestigious Red Jacket and the handsome Theta Chi Open trophy. The course is 5,800 yards from the whites and 6300 yards from the blues. The "Open" committee has decided that we will play from the blues this year to offer a little more of a challenge given the fact the course is a bit short from the whites. Theta Chi drinks from the blues now we play from the blues.

Options
A. Play at the Theta Chi Open on Friday May 5th - Cost $100
B. Attend only the 19th hole banquet - Cost $50
C. Take advantage of the "Stretch" mobile - Cost: You have to drink with Stretch
