2006 Theta Chi Open to be Held in Philly Area
The 25th annual Theta Chi Open will be held next year at Turtle Creek Golf Club located in Limerick, PA. The date is Friday, May 5th, 2006. It seems only appropriate to have our 25th annual at a golf course that was designed by one of our own, Brother Ed Beidel. The course is rated 4 stars by Golf Digest and is a challenging and well maintained track.
Here are the highlights:
1. Beer: We will have a keg (or two)...and it will follow us around the course as required.
2. Tent: A huge tent will be erected adjacent to the 18th hole so we can watch our brethren complete their round in quite solitude...ha ha.
3. Bartender: They will provide our own bartender.
4. Banquet: We have a choice between pig roast, clam bake or Lobster Tail Clam Bake. I'm leaning towards the Lobster Tail Clam Bake. For the 25th annual we're going to be living large.
5. The Beidel Factor: Ed's name is on the scorecard and there is a picture of him with Arnie and Jack on their clubhouse wall. I advised them that we have pictures of Ed too with Pee Wee and the Babe. Essentially they will do anything we want because of the Beidel factor. Bobbie Waltz, owner of the course, thinks of Ed as one of the family. Not sure what the relationship will be like on May 6th.
6. Hotel. The Sheraton Park Ridge, located in King of Prussia is Theta Chi headquarters. A block of rooms have been set aside under the name of " Penn State Theta Chi". The room cost is $90 a significant discount from their normal $159 rate. This rate is good for Thursday, Friday or Saturday nights. This hotel used to be called Stouffers and has been the site of a few Theta Chi reunions in the past, organized by Brother Bill Rooney. It is located next to the King of Prussia mall and many bars. I encourage local Philly guys as well as out of towners to stay at this hotel. To reserve a room call 610-337-1800. Do not delay as there are already a number of other reunions and weddings booked at the hotel... and you can always cancel if your plans change.
7. Shuttle Service: The hotel will provide free transportation, via a 15 passenger van, to/from any of the area bars. I don't know what compelled the sales guy at the Sheraton to mention this service.
8. Bars: There are lots of them in the King of Prussia/Valley Forge area. The hotel itself has a sports bar called "Mad Anthony's" that has pool tables and darts. I recommend Kildare's a great Irish bar, with Irish bands playing every weekend and a hot happy hour. The location is within crawling distance from the hotel and most importantly transportation will be provided by the hotel.
9. Cost: In the recent past the cost for this outing has been $90. A lobster bake will drive that number up. Prices for the outing are not available at this time, but I would expect the cost to be around $120. I would like to collect monies in advance, but we'll worry about that after the first of the year.
10. Women: Can't help you there fellas. I asked 50 year old Tony Tri-Delt to attend, but she still won't talk to me.
If you've never been to a Theta Chi Open... this is the one to make. I am confident this will bring out the best of Theta Chi's characters. Don't delay and book that hotel room now!!
