Theta Chis Observe 50th At Banquet
The Omega chapter of Theta Chi fraternity at Penn State celebrated the 50th anniversary of its founding at the University at a recent banquet at the State College Elks Country Club.
More than 100 alumni and their wives were in attendance. in addition to present active members.
Five of the original 26 charter members participated at the event at which the featured sneaker was Marvin Fleming of Florida, National President, who reminded the group that the parent organization is marking its 113th year.
Short talks were also given by George Chapman of Philadelphia. past executive director, a member of the 1920 class at Penn State and a charter member of the fraternity. and by the present incumbent. Howard Alter, 1941.
Other charter members attending were Ellwood Cassel. State College, 1919; Menell McKinstry, Boyertown, 1920; Raymond Poeppel, 1920, and William Sowden, 1922, both of Philadelphia.
Others attending from State College. who were presented with citations for their work with the active chapter over many years, were Earl Main, 1927; Francis Doan, 1919, and Crane Remaley, Alpha Beta 1936. John Doty of State College, 1924, also attended.
Alfred Bechtel, 1916, was honored as the representative of the oldest class and Emannuel Gifford was cited for his continuous service as Omega chapter chef and "father confessor" for 28 years.
