Howard Alter Given Award At Theta Chi
Howard R. Alter Jr. of New Kensington, newly elected national president of Theta Chi, social fraternity, was honored at Homecoming festivities of the Penn State chapter following Saturday's football game.
Mr. Alter, a 1941 Penn State graduate, received the Omega Achievement Award from the chapter's president Joseph P. Wells. The award was given for his active role in Penn State, New Kensington and Theta Chi affairs over the past years.
Accompanying him to the fraternity for the affair was George W. Chapman, Trenton, N.J., executive director of Theta Chi, a 1919 graduate of the University and founder of the Omega chapter at Penn State.
Among the more than 150 people on hand for the ceremonies were J. W. Crane Remaley and John Doty, State College, chapter advisors, and F. J. (Abe) Doan, president of the chapter's alumni corporation. More than 100 of Omega chapter's 710 alumni are State College residents or sons of residents.
