CDT - Letter to the Editor: The Whole Truth

I am writing in regard to your article of Sept. 18 about the police calls made on Phi Mu Delta and Theta Chi fraternities. I will not dispute the fact that early morning pledge ceremonies may have been disturbing to the families in the neighborhood. This we are sincerely sorry for. However. I was deeply annoyed that you saw fit to publish the story yet did not feel it important to report an attempt to improve 'town and gown" relations by Phi Mu Delta last May.

At this time, the fraternity held a supper for the members of the Alpha Fire Company who worked so hard to save our house from destruction in June, 1960. At the time of the dinner, a photographer from our paper was sent to the fraternity and a reporter corresponded with me several times. But all of this was to no avail. The Centre Daily Times' policy of printing nothing that is good about fraternities but all that is bad, prevailed.

It is no wonder that a poor relationship between the students and the community exists. As long as we have biased, incomplete news reporting by the local newspaper, misunderstandings are going to arise and a bad situation will become worse. I doubt if this letter will be printed. but in all fairness to the people of State College and the men of Phi Mu Delta, Theta Chi, and the rest of the fraternities in the community, let us for once read the whole truth.
