OMEGA HOLDS ALUMNI REUNION
National President and Trustee, Colgate Brothers Entertained — Fall House-Party Given in New Home - By JOHN L. CARSON ‘32
Pennsylvania State College, Dec. 8 -- Alumni Day proved to be the most successful one Omega has ever experienced. Not only were we hosts to a record number of alumni, but we also were privileged to entertain Frederick W. Ladue, national president, and Maxwell E. McDowell, member of National Board of Trustees, together with about twelve other brothers from Colgate University. Incidentally Colgate ripped our line to the tune of 40-0, the worst defeat in years.—Our houseparty the weekend of November 8, the first given in our new house, surpassed everyone's expectations.— Friday a formal dinner dance occupied most of our attention, while on Saturday night, a bowery dance acclaimed by other Greek-letter organizations as unique, was held.—December 13, the Chi Omegas and Omega Chapter gave a combined pledge dance calling it the Theta Chi Omega formal.—Kenneth L. Page has been elected to Scabbard and Blade, and Theta Alpha Phi, national honorary dramatic; Samuel Sinclair was appointed on the junior business staff of LaVie, senior yearbook; Walter L. Keene was the only junior elected to Sigma Gamma Epsilon, national honorary mining and metallurgy organization; Benjamin j. Conrad was chosen for a part in one of the Penn State Players productions; Harry V. Girard, acting house president, was appointed one of the four cadet majors and was also chosen on the Military Ball committee; Devere B. Decker, house president, is away for nine weeks practice teaching at Johnstown, Pa., Herbert Anderson received his third varsity letter in soccer and was the only Penn State man to be mentioned on Coach Jefferies All-American team.—Roy S. Maize is practically assured again of a varsity position in the 115 lb. class on the wrestling squad.—Robert B. Faries was appointed manager of the first gym team at Penn State by Hugo Bezdek, director of athletics; Charles Hammond is a likely candidate for a forward berth on the varsity quintet; Lawrence Hann, a member of last year's plebe wrestling team, is a promising man for the varsity; Albert Frey, John Q. Rodgers, and Robert V. Young are second assistant basketball, boxing, and wrestling managers, respectively. Pledges Arpad Heutchy, Robert Asplund, Ernest Wilby, and George Decker are fighting for positions on the freshman basketball team.—George Henry was selected for a part in an-other one of the Penn State Players productions.—Robert Asplund, Harry Osgood, and Benjamin Small worked out all fall on the freshman lacrosse squad and stand good chances of making the freshman team in the spring.—Randall Skilien made the R. O. T. C. band, was elected to the Glee Club and has organized a twelve-piece dance orchestra composed entirely of freshmen, that hopes to make its debut on the campus about February. — Walter Coates and George Decker are trying to make the freshman boxing team.—Benjamin J. Small, '34, Stroudsburg, Pa., is our new pledge and has shown himself quite proficient in the use of the lacrosse stick. — The annual Christmas dinner party, at which time all brothers lose customary dignity and give each other five and ten cent gifts, was a great success; however, much of this was due to the freshman play written by one of the pledges.
